Happy Friday!

School is winding down and the temperatures are heating up! Summer may be over a month away on the calendar, but it’s already in full swing here in Summerville. We’ll be sharing plenty of ways to stay cool, connect, and make the most of the summer months together as a family.

Last weekend was a rainy one but this weekend should be clear of rain! šŸ¤žšŸ¼ Here’s a few opportunities to get outside this weekend:

  • Friday: A reggae band, Mystic Vibrations, will be performing at Sounds on the Square tonight from 7-9pm in Hutchinson Square. This is a free, live music event. There will be food trucks to purchase dinner around the square.

  • Saturday: Join the Mom’s Meetup at Bolts & Brews at 4pm to meet new moms and have a chance to win some prizes! This is a casual, speed-friending event just for moms.

  • Sunday: The Summer’s Corner Farmers Market is happening from 12-3pm with local vendors, food trucks, and a kid’s zone.

TO DO

Free Bowling For Kids

We know during the hot Summerville summers there’s only so much you can do outside everyday. Cue some of the best news about some cool, screen-free, indoor family fun you can have on the hot or rainy days ahead.

Kids between the ages of 2-15 can enjoy up to two free games of bowling each day. Free games are available:

  • Mondays & Fridays 12pm-7pm

  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 12pm-5pm

  • Saturdays 10am-12pm

How do you access their free games? Click here to register your children for the Summerville location, which is located at 4570 Ladson Rd. Unless you have your own bowling shoes, kids will still need to rent shoes for $4.99.

If you or their grandparents, older siblings, or other adults would like to bowl with them, they offer a ā€œKids Bowl Free Family Passā€ for a one time payment of $49.95. This allows up to four adults to play two games a day, all summer long.

And if your family’s not into bowling they also offer other activities like laser tag, bumper cars, and arcade games for some family fun. See more about all they offer here.

Kings Sushi

ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI AND HIBACHI. šŸ‘€šŸ„³šŸ£šŸ¤¤

If we’re not out eating Mexican, you can bet we’re somewhere enjoying sushi. Back in Chicago, one of our favorite date nights was heading to a local spot with an all-you-can-eat sushi deal. We hadn’t found anything like that here—until a few weeks ago. When we heard Kings Sushi in Summerville offered an all-you-can-eat option, we knew we had to check it out.

We had a blast sampling a variety of appetizers, sushi rolls, nigiri, sashimi, hibachi, and even desserts—all for a fraction of what it would cost ordering Ć  la carte. One thing we really appreciated was how well the portions were designed for an all-you-can-eat experience. The hibachi and some of the other dishes came in smaller servings, leaving plenty of room to try more.

We’ll be honest—it’s not the absolute best food or ambiance you’ll find in the area, but it was tasty, affordable, and a ton of fun. The staff was super friendly, and the atmosphere was casual and welcoming. We went for a date night, but we’d definitely feel comfortable bringing the kids next time. They have a kid’s menu with nuggets and corn dogs if yours don’t like sushi or hibachi.

If you love sushi and hibachi as much as we do, it’s definitely worth a visit!

PALMETTO PIECE

Letting the Year Go, Gently

I didn’t expect to feel emotional at the end of the school year. It kind of snuck up on me.

Last August feels like yesterday, and yet here we are—my oldest has just wrapped up his very first year of school (preschool, and yes I know I’m being dramatic 🤣). As the ā€œlastsā€ of the school year are starting to happen this week and next, I find myself lingering, already missing the rhythm of this year. The routines we built, the sweet way he’d talk about his classmates, the teachers who so gently helped him grow—none of it will look exactly the same come August. And that’s hit me harder than I thought it would.

I’m realizing this is one of those quiet parenting milestones you don’t see coming. The kind that doesn’t show up on social media or in baby books, but lands with its own kind of weight. It’s not just his school year ending—it’s a chapter closing. And it caught me off guard.

To make things even more tender, my youngest just turned one. So now, somehow, I’m both celebrating a baby’s first year of life and watching my oldest take big steps away from little-kidhood. It’s beautiful. And it’s a lot.

So if you’re feeling a little sentimental this week too, I just wanted to say—I’m with you. It’s okay to let the year go slowly. To feel a little ache when you fold up the artwork and say goodbye to the teacher who helped shape your child’s world. These transitions matter.

Maybe we don’t need to rush right into summer mode. Maybe we just take a moment, breathe, and let ourselves feel it all—the gratitude, the pride, the twinge of sadness, the deep love.

We’ll gear up for summer soon. But for now, it’s okay to sit in this sweet, soft space between endings and beginnings.

And with that I leave you with a funny video as all you parents out there survive the craziness of the final weeks of school!

Love,

The Berks šŸ‘Øā€šŸ‘©ā€šŸ‘¦ā€šŸ‘¦
