We asked local Summerville teachers to send us their wishlists so the Palmetto Parents community can help them get ready for the upcoming school year! As a former teacher, I can tell you that even a small item purchased off the wish list is such a morale booster. Please consider taking a look at these wishlists and seeing how you can help. Here’s the list of teachers who provided there wishlists:
Gabriella DeCenzo: “I am the school psychologist at Berkeley Preparatory Academy in Summerville. I work with students from Kindergarten to 8th grade. In my role, I support students' academic, emotional, and behavioral growth by collaborating with educators and families. I conduct evaluations for students in special education, or for students suspected of having a disability. I also provide counseling, and help create individualized strategies to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed. I am so appreciative to each and everyone of you who decides to buy anything from my wishlist. It truly means the world to me and makes going back to school a lot less stressful this year.” Here’s Gabriella’s wishlist.
Ali Dukes: “I teach Kindergarten. My goal is to provide my students with a literacy rich engaging classroom where they can feel safe to grow and learn to be the best humans they can.” Here’s Ali’s wishlist.
ShaQuawn Nelson: “I've taught 4K and 5K for 10 years now. This year I'm teaching 4K at Eugene Sires Elementary. I love teaching little ones the foundations of learning.” Here’s ShaQuawn’s wishlist.
Linda Russell: “I am teaching First Grade at Berkeley Preparatory Academy in Summerville. I have been in the education field for 16 years and absolutely love teaching the primary grades. My classroom is transformed into a "family", where we all work and learn together. Creating a fun, hands on environment opens the door for all learners. I would love to add more hands-on items for my first graders to engage in this coming school year, along with items to provide a safe environment for students who may need sensory items. Any help is greatly appreciated.” Here’s Linda’s wishlist.
Kayleigh Scott: “I teach second grade at Eagle Nest Elementary. This is my second year teaching, but my first year in second grade. I strive to create a welcoming and engaging classroom where my students feel excited to learn every day. Your support helps me provide them with the tools and resources they need to grow and thrive!” Here’s Kaleigh’s wishlist.
Jessica Turner: “After a few years away from the classroom, I’m beyond excited to return to my passion—teaching elementary music! This time away gave me a new perspective, but my heart never left the world of music education. I’m stepping back into the classroom with fresh energy, a deep appreciation for the magic of music, and a strong desire to serve a new community of young learners. In the past, I built a classroom full of cozy touches, engaging instruments, and beloved teaching tools, many of which I had to leave behind. Now, I’m rebuilding from the ground up, and I’d be so grateful for any help in making this space warm, welcoming, and inspiring for my students. I can’t wait to share music from all over the world with them—singing, playing, and moving together as we explore rhythm, culture, and creativity. It feels so good to be back in the game!” Here’s Jessica’s wishlist.
Laura Witts: “I am a 5th grade teacher at Berkeley Preparatory Academy. This is my 3rd year teaching and my 2nd year at BPA. My focus is ELA/Social Studies. My goal is to make my classroom fun and inviting so that the atmosphere encourages learning.” Here’s Laura’s wishlist.
Julie Samosuk: “I teach middle school STEM and am adding a new Project Lead The Way program Energy and the Environment this year. I have a passion for Project based learning and love teaching the kids to problem solve. My classroom is always in need of consumable supplies to allow the kids to be their most creative.” Here’s Julie’s wishlist.
