Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

We hope you enjoy the extra time with family this weekend— for many of you the last weekend before school wraps up!

We have a lot of new readers with us, so in this week’s Palmetto Piece (at the end) we included the Palmetto Parent Spring Family Bingo Board again! We have another month left of spring and our winners will get a $25 gift card to Rita’s Italian Ice & Custard and a Palmetto Parents shirt and hat.

If you’d like a meaningful way to remember those we’ve lost in the military, join the Summerville community for a Memorial Day gathering on Monday, May 26, from 2:30–3:30pm in Hutchinson Square, featuring prayer, poetry, music, and a one-minute moment of silent reflection at 3pm. The event will also feature the 2025 Tribute Memorial Wall of the Fallen—if you’d like a loved one to be included or more details about the event, click here.

FROM OUR SPONSOR

River of Dreams Pressure Washing

I’m Mike, founder of River of Dreams. I was born and raised in New York, but moved to Summerville, South Carolina to give my kids a better future. I started this company with the dream of building something lasting—something my children could one day take pride in and carry forward. Every job we take on is rooted in that same mission: providing honest, high-quality work that reflects the values I want to pass down.

At our company, customer satisfaction is our top priority. We take pride in delivering the highest quality wash while ensuring a seamless and professional experience. Our goal is to exceed expectations and leave every customer with a lasting impression of our exceptional service!

Cheaper isn’t always better when it comes to pressure washing. I bring experience, top-quality equipment, and the right techniques to ensure your property is cleaned safely and thoroughly without risking damage. Cheaper services often cut corners, use lower-quality tools, or apply the wrong pressure — which can lead to poor results or even costly repairs. I’m reliable, fully insured, and committed to delivering long-lasting, professional results that keep your property looking its best. In the end, it’s not just about price — it’s about value, and I make sure you get what you pay for.

Our company provides commercial and residential services including house and roof washing, concrete cleaning, gutter cleaning, window cleaning, fence/deck restoration, and paver sealing. Click here to get your free estimate and visit our Facebook page to see more of our work.

LOCAL EVENT

Sunflower Festival

If last week’s “Down on the Farm Fridays” at West Farm event looked interesting to you, nows your chance to take your family over the weekend to celebrate the Sunflower Festival at West Farm! The Sunflower Festival will be a full day of outdoor fun for the whole family. Head out to the farm for exciting activities, creativity, and plenty of space to play.

Start your day by exploring the vibrant U-pick flower fields—a picture-perfect way to kick off the fun. Kids can bounce to their heart’s content on the pumpkin jump pad, swing high on the big kid swingset (don’t miss the epic pipe swing!), and challenge themselves in the winding tire maze.

There’s more hands-on fun waiting with craft stations, pony rides (Friday and Sunday), and face painting to spark their imaginations. Whether you’re there for the fresh air, the animals, or just to let the kids burn off some energy, this is the place to be.

🎶 Bonus! Live Music on Saturday
Make it a full afternoon and stick around for live music from Boonie Bevins & Carolina Drive, performing on Saturday, May 24th from 3–7pm. Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy the sounds of summer as you relax after a fun-filled day.

RESTAURANT

Sirinna’s Thai Kitchen

There’s a special kind of restaurant where you walk in as customers and leave feeling like family. Sirinna’s Thai Kitchen in Summerville is exactly that kind of place. Tucked just off of Old Trolley Rd., this hidden gem is serving up incredible Thai food with a whole lot of love—and a story that’s just as flavorful as the food.

This family-owned restaurant is run by a husband and wife duo: he’s a proud U.S. military combat veteran 🇺🇸, and she’s originally from Thailand 🇹🇭, bringing authentic recipes and warm hospitality to every table. What started as a pop-up tent in Goose Creek in 2021, grew into a food trailer, and eventually blossomed into their first sit-down restaurant in 2023. Just over a year later, they proudly earned the title of Best Thai Restaurant in 2024.

When we visited recently, we had an experience that reminded us why small, family-owned spots like this matter so much. The staff—especially our server—went above and beyond to make our family feel welcome. Without us asking, she brought out our kids’ food first, made sure our baby had extra water in his cup, and was just genuinely sweet to them the entire time. Those little things made a big impact.

The food? Fantastic. The boys devoured their fried mac and cheese balls (we may have snuck a few bites—no regrets 😄). And as someone who needs gluten-free options, I love how many different dishes they’re able to customize safely and deliciously. It's rare to find a place that blends authentic flavor, dietary flexibility, and top-notch hospitality so effortlessly. And like so many other Summerville families, we’ll be spreading the word—because food this good, and people this kind, deserve to be known.

🥟 Full Menu Here (Plus $15 lunch deals with an appetizer, entree, and drink)
📍 Location: 1201 Old Trolley Rd., Summerville
🕒 Hours: Monday & Tuesday 4pm-9pm, Wednesday-Sunday 11am-9pm
