Happy Motherâs Day Weekend!
We hope this weekend brings you a chance to celebrate the moms, grandmas, and mother figures who mean so much. We also recognize that Motherâs Day can stir up a mix of emotions â from grieving the mothers or children weâve lost, to navigating strained relationships or unmet expectations. However you spend the weekend, we hope it holds moments of comfort, joy, and love, right where you are. And whatever it looks like for you, weâre cheering you on.
This week, weâre excited to share details about MayFest, a brand-new celebration happening right here in Summerville. Itâs a free, family-friendly event that benefits Parents Partnership, a local nonprofit supporting single parents and vulnerable families. Itâs a beautiful way to give back this Motherâs Day â and to support the kind of care every family deserves. I met with the heart and soul behind Parent Partnership last week, Jennifer, and I am so excited for the growth of this organization and the good theyâll do in our community.
And if you love a good deal, weâll be sharing discounts and freebies for moms at local businesses in Summerville on our Instagram Stories this weekend.
Boba Fusion is a sensational boba tea & dessert shop on Old Trolley Rd. that opened this past winter. They serve a wide variety of boba and milk tea flavors and mouth-watering desserts. And next Saturday, May 17th, is their grand opening celebration! Mark your calendars to support the owners Thera & Jesse (Summerville locals and fellow Palmetto Parents) at this event. There will be free gifts for the first fifty customers, free treats, and you can get 10% off your entire order when you mention Palmetto Parents!

If ooey, gooey, chocolate chip filled cookies are your jam, then look no further than Delâs Baked Goods. Before I was a newsletter writing mom of two, I (Courtney) started Delâs Baked Goods to combine my love of baking and love of community. I love baking for others and love the way that a great dessert brings people together.

PALMETTO PIECE
A Letter to My Past Self (As A Mom)

In honor of Motherâs Day, we brought in a guest writer for this weekâs Palmetto Piece. Luanne, a local grandmother (and my mother-in-law đ), reflected on her years of raising three boys. Hereâs the advice she would share with her younger self.
Dear me,
Slow down. Take a breath. Itâs gonna be OK. You ARE an incredible mom. Itâs not about whether your kids are wearing designer clothes or have the trendiest stroller or how full their toybox is. Their future doesnât depend on whether theyâre able to get into that really popular dance class or science camp or soccer club. Itâs about simple everyday things.
Yes, mothering is hard work, but donât lose sight of those special moments. Lean in and embrace it all. Treasure those kisses before school. Hold onto those snuggles in the rocking chair just before putting them down for the night. Relish each word of their favorite book as much as they do. Let them ask âWhyâ one more time and do your best to answer. Get excited about playing their favorite âKidâs Songsâ playlist again and againâŚand sing those words right along with them at the top of your lungs! Listen to those adorable words they are sharing with you, even if they seem silly at the time. Remember to tell them you love them ALL THE TIME.
Not every day is a photo opp. Some days you wonder if youâre even cut out to be a mother. Can you even do this? Embrace those days too. They wonât last forever. Sometimes you just gotta hunker down and put one foot in front of the other and survive. Put on your big momma pants and walk (or strut) right through those days too. Remember, youâre the adult in the room, right? Youâre gonna figure out whatever dilemma youâre facing, even though it may seem impossible at the time. And if it seems like too much, ask for help â a neighbor, a friend, a sister, a grandparent. Take a break. Being a good mom means taking care of yourself too.
Before you know it, theyâll be filling out college applications, getting their own apartment, finding their own true love and starting their own familyâŚin a flash. Itâs true. Then, youâll stand back with big proud tears of joy, knowing you did your best!
Itâs all worth it! Build those beautiful memories, record them with gigantic, endless amounts of photos and display them proudly. Someday youâll look back on these days and be so, so thankful, and they will too!
Remembering those days with love,
Your future self
Love,
The Berks đ¨âđŠâđŚâđŚ
