Welcome back, Palmetto Parents!
We hope everyone had a great Memorial Day and are feeling the relief of a four-day work week. For those of you with kids ending the school year soon, we know summer can be both exciting and chaotic. Weβll do our best to make your summer great by continuing to provide ideas to keep your kids busy and families connected.
Donβt forget that kids bowl free this summer at Stars and Strikes. We wrote about the details here.
To Do: $1 Family Movies at Regal Theaters

For those looking to keep kids busy during the weekdays of summer, Regal Theaters will offer $1 movie tickets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 11 AM from June 11th-August 7th for selected movies. The line up includes movies like Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie, Spider Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and the Sonic the Hedgehog movies. They also have $5 snack deals for kids.
Check out this link for more information and to see the dates that each movie is available. I know I plan to take my son to his first movie for one of the Paw Patrol showings. Itβs a perfect, low risk time to try out the theater with your kids and to see new movies or old favorites for cheap.

Fun Audio Experiences for the Whole Family
Limiting screen-time is often at odds with your kids enjoying their favorite films and series. But not with Popcorn Brainstorm! Jokes & Trivia for Kids, the chart-topping Kids & Family podcast from Netflix. Featuring trivia, games and jokes about Netflix films and series, Popcorn Brainstorm is an audio experience that keeps everyone in the family connected, entertained and having fun.
Listen to episodes about Leo, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir, The Dragon Prince and many more!
We just drove to and from Asheville with a 2-year-old and a newborn, and thank Jesus for a DVD player in our minivan.
We are incredibly intentional about not overdosing our children with screen time, but sometimes there is no use pushing against logic, and a roadtrip is one of those times.
You can imagine our disbelief when Netflix came across the desk to advertise with Palmetto Parents. (I was shocked to say the least). But beyond that, they launched this totally amazing game that is great for kids and families, and itβs such a good middle ground to engage with your family without everyone sitting glued to a screen.
Check it out with your family this weekend by clicking the image above and let us know what you think about it!
Below: Events, Restaurants, and More!
An Event: Carolina Ale House Makerβs Market

If youβre a fan of supporting small business and local crafters, this event is for you. The Makers Market will be the perfect place to shop for an end of school year gift for teachers or gift for Fatherβs Day with over 20 local vendors setup at the event. Some vendors you can expect to see include Craft That Wood, Cluck Norris Trading Company, and Pardon the Pun.
Carolina Ale House, located at 191 Sigma Drive, will have lots of outdoor seating for live music and also host a beer truck from Commonhouse Ale Works. The event runs from 11am-4pm and it looks like weβll have great weather this Saturday!
Restaurant: Food Truck Central

If you frequently drive on Central Ave., youβve probably seen some food trucks parked in a new space. In mid-April the ribbon was cut to officially open Summervilleβs first food truck park, Food Truck Central, located at 101 Woodduck Dr.
The vision for the food truck park is to have up to five different trucks available at the site on a consistent basis so locals can go there to get a quick and easy bite. Food trucks will rotate so that thereβs always something new to try. Things are still getting fully up and running, but thereβs already been trucks there ready to serve many days of the week. Options you can frequently find include Tackle Box Eats, Vibrant Alkaline Vegan Meals, and Waffle Sensations.
Check the calendar to see what trucks are there in the coming days. We look forward to seeing the progress on this idea because we love food trucks!
Palmetto Piece: Youβll Miss The Bare Spots in Your Yard
Hey Palmetto Parents! Daniel here.
We recently hired a local company to do a massive clear out of our backyard so we can start using it a bit more, maybe grow some thicker grass, and ideally figure out the mosquitos (is that even possible?)
We have two children and an 85-pound, extremely energetic Bernedoodle. Keeping our backyard grass looking nice with all the foot traffic, sandy soil, and trillion squirrels seems like a battle that never ends.
While having a perfect backyard is something easy to desire, I got a gut punch from this Reel below, and immediately sent it to Courtney.
Hereβs an excerpt from the Reelβs caption, although I recommend reading the whole thing.
βHopefully little feet will be stomping and scampering all around that thing making dirt patches and ruining your yard. And then theyβll move out and the grass will come back green and beautiful and you will miss those brown patches more than you could ever imagine. Maybe a couple decades later, new little feet will ruin your yard again and youβll be happy.β
If youβre also trying to constantly clean your house or yard, I encourage you to take a step back and realize that there will someday be a day that you miss the chaos.
I donβt know about you, but I needed to hear that this week.
Until next time
Love,
The Berks π¨βπ©βπ¦
