Together With

Happy Spring, Summerville!

We can’t wait for you all to join us tomorrow at Odd Duck Summerville from 10-12!

This is what we look like so you can find us πŸ₯³

TOMORROW, March 14th from 10am-12pm come to the Palmetto Parents Family Fun Day at Odd Duck Market Summerville to celebrate the two year anniversary of the Palmetto Parents Summerville newsletter and community! We are so looking forward to meeting many of you and the weather looks like it’s going to be perfect to spend a little time outdoors.

At the event we will have:

  • coffee and treats from Odd Duck

  • kid-friendly games and axe throwing courtesy of Southern Hatchets

  • crafts courtesy of Abstract Adventures

  • a special appearance from Charlie T. Riverdog, the Riverdogs’ mascot

  • and lots of fun for your family!

Spring doesn’t officially begin for another week, but the beautiful azaleas around town are already telling us it’s here. The few weeks each year when the azaleasβ€”and so many other flowers and treesβ€”are in full bloom is one of my favorite times in Summerville. I could do without the layer of yellow pollen covering the van, but the cheerful energy the flowers bring to town more than makes up for it.

This year, Summerville YMCA is hosting the Shamrock Shuffle tomorrow morning, and registration is still open. But if you’re looking for other ways to celebrate (that don’t include running), take a look at our Charleston newsletter, where we’ve rounded up some events happening in nearby areas along with a few ideas for celebrating at home.

TO DO

Summers Corner Spring Farmers Markets

If you’re looking for a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon, the Summers Corner Spring Farmers Market series is about to begin. The community will host four markets this spring, giving families several chances to shop local, enjoy great food, and spend time outdoors together.

The first market takes place this Sunday, March 15, from 12–3pm, and the theme is perfect for the season. Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, guests are encouraged to wear their green and enjoy an afternoon full of local shopping, fresh food, and community fun.

This weekend’s market features an impressive 51 local vendors, offering everything from fresh produce, eggs, and honey to handmade goods, jewelry, and artisan products. If you come hungry, you’re in luckβ€”seven local food vendors will be on-site serving lunch, coffee, and sweet treats.

Beyond the shopping and food, the event will also include free family activities like yard games, face painting, inflatable axe throwing, and a festive photo opportunity provided by Lowcountry Party People. Be sure to stop by the Lennar at Summers Corner booth as well for giveaways and a chance to win a β€œPot of Gold” gift basket.

The markets will be held at 1635 Beech Hill Road (in front of Rollings Middle School).

Additional spring market dates include:

  • April 12

  • May 17

  • June 21

Each market runs 12–3pm, making it an easy and relaxed weekend outing for families.

StillWild Coffee Co.

Instagram post

For anyone who loved Cuppa Manna at 100 South Main Street in downtown Summerville, the space has a new chapter. New owners David and Amy Boersma have taken over and rebranded the cafΓ© as StillWild Coffee Co. Since the transition, my husband and I have already been impressed with the quality of the coffee, and after spending time there this week, we’re even bigger fans.

The shop recently closed for a couple of weeks for a full remodel and officially reopened with a grand opening on Wednesday. I’m actually writing this newsletter from the new space right now, and I’m thoroughly impressed. Even with plenty of customers coming in, the cafΓ© is well staffed, so there hasn’t been much of a wait. The team is incredibly friendly and genuinely excited to welcome people back in.

The redesigned interior is beautiful, featuring calming shades of green throughout the space. It’s clear the layout was thoughtfully plannedβ€”there are cozy spots for working, tables for meeting friends, and corners perfect for enjoying a quiet moment alone. While I’ve been here, I’ve seen people doing all three. It’s quickly becoming one of those places where you can comfortably spend some time.

The menu includes coffee made with in-house roasted beans along with a scratch-made food menu. Beyond classic espresso drinks, they also serve smoothies, boba and milk teas, and even a unique dirty root beer cold foam float. You’ll find baked goods from local bakeries, plus breakfast options like sandwiches and yogurt parfaits, and lunch items including an artisan grilled cheese, turkey apple melt, and a curry chicken salad wrap.

If you’ve been meaning to check it out, this is a great week to stop by and show them some love after reopening.

Also, a quick personal note: their new merch is adorable. I have an unexplainable love for sloths, so I was thrilled to see that sloths are featured in some of their new branding. Naturally… I had to get one.

If you’d like to learn more about their story and the vision behind the rebrand, you can read about it here:

PALMETTO PIECE

The Sweet Spot of Spring

The blooming flowers in Azalea Park. 😍

Spring in Summerville is a little bit magical, but it’s also a little bit fleeting.

If you’ve lived here long enough, you know how it goes. One day the air feels perfect, the azaleas are blooming, and the kids can run outside without jackets or complaints about the heat. Then suddenly… it’s May, and we’re all anticipated lots of sweat if we’re going to go outside. Spring here is short and it tips into hot faster than you expect.

Right now is that sweet spot, the window where it’s warm enough to be outside comfortably, but not so hot that you have to plan your entire day around the heat. And the best part? We’ve got more daylight again, which means a little extra time in the evenings to enjoy it.

The good news is you don’t have to do anything special to take advantage of this season. It doesn’t have to be a big outing or a perfectly planned family activity.

Just be in it.

Eat dinner on the porch. Walk to the park after school. Let the kids ride bikes around the neighborhood while the sun is still up. Sit outside with your coffee in the morning. Stop by the playground for twenty minutes instead of going straight home.

These small moments are the ones that make this season feel so good.

Because before long, the Summerville heat will settle in and we’ll all be searching for shade, splash pads, and air conditioning again.

But for now, the weather is just right. And sometimes the best way to enjoy it is simply to step outside and stay a while. So prioritize outside time with your family for these few weeks while the weather is perfection!

Love,

Courtney, Daniel, and the Berk Boys
